Apple presses will be on hand to convert the crop into delicious juice for drinking or cider. Free to any who help with the harvest. Locally made apple presses will be on sale and there will be guided walks around this important nature reserve. Local beekeepers will explain the important role of bees as pollinators as well as selling delicious local honey. There will be lots of refreshments including hot apple fritters and home made cakes.

Bring lots of clean washed bottles to take the juice home in.

Saturday 24 September
Share the Harvest - Community Food Swap
Folk Hall 12:00pm - 1.00 pm

With everyone talking about bumper crops this year why not come along with any spare produce from you garden/allotment and swap it for things you havent grown. If you do not have a garden then bring along something homemade like cakes or jam and trade with that instead! Last year about 50 people came and there were plenty of items including leeks, parsnips, potatoes, beetroots, tomatoes, onions, courgettes, peppers, lettuce, radish, apples, pears, parsley, lavender, chutney, cakes, jams, and even some fish!

Saturday 10 September
Farmers market

Waitrose Plaza 9.00 - 12:00

We will be at the Farmer's market again on Saturday so come along to buy our green garden bags and compost bins and share any spare fruit and vegetables you have. We will have pots of herbs for sale from the Flower Show. We will also have some books for our bookshare.

Visit the market before you do your weekly shop at Waitrose and check out the range and quality of the locally produced food available including meat, eggs, cheese, vegetables, bread, apple juice and lots more.

Food consumes more transport fuel than any other goods in the UK so buying local produce really does make a difference.

The Age of Stupid
Jubilee Hall, 49 Slade Road. Doors open at 8.00pm for 8.30pm

Category 12 A film with Pete Postlethwaite. Entrance £5.00 (Concessions £4.50)

"The Age of Stupid" was the last film of the actor Pete Postlethwaite, who died in Jan this year, and he was totally committed to its making.
He was once described by the film director Steven Spielberg as ‘probably the best actor in the world today’.
He received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Guiseppe Conlon in the 1993 film ‘In Name of the Father’, about the wrongful convictions of the Guildford Four.
One of his most popular films was ‘Brassed Off’, in which he played the leader of a colliery band in a Yorkshire community devastated by mine closures. He also played the criminal mastermind Kobayashi in the 1993 hit film ‘The Usual Suspects’.
Pete Postlethwaite had originally planned to be a priest, but became a teacher. He trained as a mature student at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the seventies. He had to fund his course himself, taking among other jobs, work in a sheet metal factory.
In recent years Pete Postlethwaite became known also for his political activism. He adapted his home to become environmentally responsible, installing a wind turbine and other features, and arrived for the première of ‘The Age of Stupid’ on a bicycle.
