Energy

One of our aims is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce carbon. Domestic energy consumption accounts for about 30% of the CO2 produced in the UK so we intend to focus our actions on reducing domestic energy use and encouraging domestic and community level renewable energy production.

Low Carbon Gordano

Low Carbon Gordano is a new social enterprise established in partnership with Sustainable Pill. It is progressing with plans for a community share issue for its initial projects to install solar panels and energy saving schemes in community buildings.

Public meetings have been held in Pill and Portishead to let local people have their say about future projects. Meetings are also ongoing with local town and parish councils.

Recent Government announcement that the Feed in Tariff for solar pv is to be cut by more than 50% has meant that the original suite of projects is no longer viable and the group are awaiting the outcome of the consultation on the new rates before deciding how best to proceed.
